Overview

Students for Equal Opportunity in Medicine (SEOM) is an organization that comprises the local chapters of two nationwide medical organizations, The Student National Medical Asssociation (SNMA) and the National Boricua/Latino Health Organization (NBLHO).

These organizations represent the concerns of Black and Latino students, respectively, within the local medical community as well as nationwide. They are committed to such things as addressing the prominent health concerns of the Black and Latino community in the U.S., engaging in hands-on community outreach to these communities, and promoting the recruitment and retention of Black and Latino students in the medical profession.

SEOM, in addition to being an umbrella organization, focuses on educating the general medical community about issues confronting the Black and Latino community at large since it is only through education that competent and compassionate care can be provided to these under-served populations.
